in the light of the huge 'GEP vs Mainstream' issue there has been another reply in TODAY (22 Nov).... this will interest sean lee i'm sure...In her zealous defence of Gifted Education Programme student, Michelle Qiu displays a sense of, at best, brash arrogance and, at worst, condescension and a superiority complex. While i do not want to believe she represents the typical GEP student, it would be worrying if many 'GEPers' (as they call themselves) had such an 'us-them' mentalityAside from proclaming 'mainstreamers' (what a patronising term!) to be immature, she is thrilled the programme allowed her to interact exclusively with 'people like us'.For a 'gifted' student, she is quick to make sweeping generalisations that 'everyone' in the mainstream follows trends, almost insinuating that 'ungifted' people have no minds of their own.It is fine if Michelle and her group of like-minded friends continue to live in their ivory towers, associating only with memebers of this chosen fraternity, kieeping out of their lives of the 'mainstream'. Unfortunately, many may end up with scholarships and eventually hold public office, where their policies will affect the 'mainstream' and the masses.I shudder to think what kind of empathy there can be when, from the onset, these young people display such an elitist 'us versus them' mentality. This is propbably an alarmist scenario, but picture this: A group of key decision makers decide that the general population is rather immature and cannot possibly have minds of their own.As such, everyone with and IQ below 150 should be systematically eradicated. Such a mentality would please Adolf Hitler.maybe the IQ part is paranoia, but i agree with the writer here. in fact, i feel that GEPers in ACS(I) are more immature than us. The GEP teachers have to handle them in a different way compared to us 'mainstream people'. They look as if the students are 10 year old kids, not the 16 year old people they are.it's not the heavy stuff they learn that we are criticizing, it's the elitist status that is unfairly given to them. Even some GEPers i know (won't mention names) also believe that they don't deserves such elitist status.I remember back in '98 when i didn't get into GEP, and i was quite disappointed. However, i found out that out of the top 10 boys in that year, the top 7 (includin me!!! lol) were non- GEPers. Some of them (like thang, lew, john b) are people that are doin well, maybe even better than most GEPers now. the people who went into GEP were actually those who weren't that bright, and i dun think they are still that bright now. Those in IB will know, our averages are far better than most GEPers. I know that some GEPers are fine, great guys to be with. but most of them stay in their shells, not willing to come out. next yr will be very interesting...i'm now molting at home... waiting for all the skin to drop out.... NYAA gold is so darn irritating....

went to watch harry potter and the goblet of fire today...bloody cinema... air-con break down... plus my burned self... haiz...i demand a refund...the class party at sentosa was fun... besides the strong sunlight... the constant shouts of 'STONEFISH!!!' the lan was bad (for me)... but overall it was a good time of fun... only wished that more pple could have come...now i will be a movie guru for all u guys who haven't watched GOF...ignore the hype... the movie isn't as good as it is proclaimed to be. It's a good flick for the thrills, CG stunts and storyline... but somehow it seems to be too fast and it doesn't really attract someone who had never read the books... like anyone hasn't...the trio's acting is ok, but the big letdown was the other characters... for a third of the show ron becomes harry's greatest nemisis... the characters of cho chang, viktor krum etc. aren't really developed well enough....overall u should go and catch it, but don't get ur hopes up too high....best performance - ralph fiennes as voldermort... really.... or brandon gleeson as mad-eye moodyworst perfomance - choose between katie leung (cho chang) or that bulgarian guy as viktor krum....best scene - the part where the horntail chases harry.... although a little overkill...most cheesy scene 1 - the part where hermione suddenly gives a bear-hug to harry in the competitors tent in the presence of rita skeeter.... i thought she liked ron???most cheesy scene 2 - when harry emerges with cedric's body, everyone starts cheering until fleur starts screaming...for all u cho-baters out there... her role is so minor, the only important part was when harry asks her out.... besides, she could be micheal doyle's daughter in disguise, bloody scottish accent...what irritated me the most was the teens behind me...quotes:that guy is not mad-eye... he's barty crouch!!!(15 minutes into the movie)he really likes cho chang!!!he's gonna pick the hungarian horntail!!it's the carriage/ship!!emma watson's so hot!!!(k, i made that one up)stop shouting the obvious to the whole cinema lah... let pple enjoy the show... jeez..

You only can try to make things work the way u want it...really sian hols lah... today went to fish and co to eat the seafood platter for one... then hear my sis complain for the whole meal...playing c&c zero hour (again)...she's cold and she's cruel, but she knows what she's doing...are u really busy... or do i sound like a despo... maybe i do...quote of the day(from Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith)Anakin: You're either with me, or against me....(actual meaning - a quote from George Bush)Obi-Wan: Only a Sith deals with absolutes...(actual meaning - Darth Bush???)imagine.... WE BEAT CHELSEA!!!! WE BEAT CHELSEA!!!!what's the score, Josewhat's the score, JoseOle ole ole.....i must say, united played one heck of a game, and keane's scoldings did really have an effect. smith played damn well... fletcher wasn't fantastic, but he scored the only goal... and the defence played quite well, but chelsea could have scored how many...now we're third, behind chelsea by 10 points (with a game in hand)...i think we might still get second... that's not too bad lah...anyways... hols are damn sian... sat go for nyaa logging (and play com too).... den went for some BBQ in which i played pool and drank beer...cool...now logging nyaa gold again... stupid... jus crap and crap...

come to think bout it... hols are also damn sianz...doin NYAA gold logging now... how sian...games all play until sian....so i will use this post to be the fantasy manager of man u... a club in crisis....firstly... can rio ferdinand defend??? (exhibit A, his defending against boro for the second and fourth goals....)u're being paid 100,000 pounds a week damn it!!! do something properly!! push that guy off his feet!!! dun let him run pass u!!!....secondly.... is the midfield good enough???(exhibit B, the manu midfield now.... scholes, fletcher, ronaldo, smith)fletcher really is not gd enough for man u... ronaldo must use his pace more than jus doin step-overs... scholes needs to regain his glory days... smith is still a work in progress...)thirdly... does 4-3-3 work???(in fifa 06 it's damn gd...)i dun really think so.... rooney should be slightly behind van nisterooy, running at defenders.... park could play in the middle or on the flanks.... fourth... does man u need a new manager...ferguson has been a great manager for united... but he has made some horrendous signings at over the past few years.... veron... forlan (although he's doin well at villarreal...).... saha (a huge flop)... even ferdinand (for 30 mil u could have got frank lampard... steven gerrard.... heck even henry)so what must united do now???1) sell some players - fletcher should go, saha should go, o'shea should go... liam miller is a young and hopeless flop....2) buy some players - swop rio for ledley king or somebody better, open the chequebook for micheal ballack, get a new back-up striker like robbie keane (if spurs wanna sell him) get someone to replace keane (not smith..) maybe javier mascherano from corinthians...fergie must learn not just to depend on famous players, but to scout for young talent and groom them.Team United 06/07 ( i hope)Van der sar, G. Nevile, King, Silvestre, Henize, Ballack, Ronaldo, Mascherano, Park, Rooney, Van Nisterooy... (4-4-2)anywayz.... MAN U TO BEAT CHELSEA!!! ( i hope.. somehow, maybe lampard will score an own goal or something)_end_of_rant_
