'BUS AND MRT FARES TO RISE'
bleddy hell..
i think some of the stuff i read in that article makes me shake my head and sigh. It's the same ridiculous stuff we hear all the time when there's such an increase.
1) Some people actually pay less after the 'adjustments'
yeah, those are the people that don't take the bus after the increases.
2) It's still cheaper than places like New York, London, Hong Kong etc...
another example of double standards. When we talk compare other stuff (education, political freedom etc) we say that Singapore is unique, and that we should not use other places as benchmarks for Singaporean society. now, when we attempt to make something 'uniquely Singapore', we compare with others. as usual, it's political maneuvering to make comparisons only when it's beneficial to you-know-who..
3) We need to increase prices to continue to improve our service!
i think i speak for most singaporeans when i say that we don't need airline stewardess services on our buses. i personally think the level of service our public transport provides is adequate for our needs. we don't need excessive services.
few things i would like to mention as well:
1) Public transport is not a privilege, it's an essential item..
although i applaud the intention of giving transportation vouchers to needy families, i think we shouldn't have the impression that if you're 'not needy', you should pay more. It's the role of the authorities to provide assistance for every citizen. We should ensure that NO ONE feels the pinch of travelling by bus/MRT.
2) PLEASE give concessions to us poor NSFs!
eh the SAF ez-link card is just a normal card with my ugly CMPB photo on it. please. we don't earn much, and the least our government could do for us is to give us bus concessions.
bleh this is the result of illiberal democracy.
